Waynalene "Sue" Newell

Waynalene “Sue” Newell, 88, of Elkhart, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Riverside Village.

Sue was born on October 7, 1932 in Elkhart, IN to Wayne Leroy Etchey and Goldie Marie (Brantley) Etchey. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Forest Nusbaum; her husband, Rollin L. Newell; son, Warren A. Newell and daughter, Elizabeth S. (Brown) Earick. 

Sue is survived by her children, Edward (Shelly) Newell, Ramona V, Bracker, both of Elkhart; sister, Ramona Thompson of Virginia; sister- law, Ida L. Williams; son-in-law, David Earick of Elkhart; 5 grandchildren, Tracey Erick, Jennifer (Josh) Schrock, Benjamin Bracker, Ashlee (Dustin) Kehr and Matthew (Lindsey) Newell; 7 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces and her dog, “Sweattea”.

Sue was a lifelong resident of Elkhart and she graduated from Elkhart High School. She was an administrative assistant at Oaklawn proudly becoming a member of the “Quarter Century Club”. Sue was also a part time bookkeeper and home health care aide in her later years. She was a member of the Elkhart County Bark for Life Committee. Sue enjoyed knitting sweaters giving them as gifts to her family and friends.  She was a voracious reader in her spare time. Sue also enjoyed fishing and tending to her roses. Sue was very independent and had an acute eye for detail. Most of all, Sue loved spending time with her family and friends. 

There will be no visitation or funeral services for Sue. Cremation has been chosen. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 is assisting the family.
