Vivian Dayton Life Story

Mrs, Vivian L. “Viv” Dayton, 65, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 8:14 am at Elkhart General Hospital following a recent cancer diagnosis. She was born in Westbrook, Maine on December 14, 1955 to the late Roland Lestage Sr and Beverly (Tilden) Lestage who survives in Coventry, Connecticut. On March 18th ,1989, she married Robert A. Dayton, Sr. in Willimantic, Ct. He survives at home.

Also surviving Viv are her children Rachel (James) Martin of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, Robert A. “Bobby” Dayton, Jr., of Elkhart, Jaimie M. (Edward) Knuckles, also of Elkhart; brothers Brian Lestage of Oregon and Andrew Lestage of Coventry, Connecticut; sister Melanie (John) Boutot of Columbia, Connecticut; sister-in-law Sylvie Lestage of East Hartford, Connecticut; grandsons James and Joshua Martin of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts and Viv’s Godmother Shirley MacDonald of South Portland, Maine. Additionally, Viv will be missed by her beloved kitties Shadow and Patches and doggy Tripper; her grand-puppies Copper, Peanut, and Blue, and a host of loving extended family and good friends. Along with her father, Viv is preceded in death by brothers Steven and Roland Lestage Jr.

In accordance with her wishes, Vivian is to be cremated with the assistance of Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. No immediate services have been planned.

Viv graduated Coventry High School and attended Manchester Community College in Connecticut. She worked many years in management in the food service industry, but her most rewarding career was homemaker to her beloved family. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and things only got better when she started babysitting and became Nana to them all. She loved children to begin with, and the addition of children back in her life made mundane things exciting and fun. They would spend many hours together cooking and baking and laughing in the kitchen.

Viv spent her down time relaxing in front of the TV, following the escapades of Agents Gibbs and McGee, Director Shepard and Lab Tech Abby Sciuto of CBS’s “NCIS”. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed the works of Stephen King.

Memorial donations made in Vivian’s name may go to the charity of one’s choice.
