Virginia Gary, 71, of Goshen and lovingly known as Pie or Ginni - passed away peacefully on Sunday September 6, 2020, at her home surrounded by love and family. She was born on February 24, 1949 in Wardell, Missouri to Hurbert Gary and Wardine (Gary) Ware. She is survived by her loving daughter, Hope (Ralph) Dowe, son Simeon Gary and granddaughter Dinah Dowe. Also surviving is her sister Emma Jean (Jerome) Gill and two brothers, Rev. Larry (Suzette) Ware and Michael Ivory, as well as her nieces and nephews, Regina (Rod) Roberson, Robin Ingram, Rannen (Rachel) Roberson, Christian, Tylar and Taryn Roberson.
Ginni was a graduate of Elkhart High School, attended Carter Secretarial School and Indiana University South Bend. She worked for the City of Elkhart for several years at the Police Department (Records Division) and for Parks and Recreation (Golden Angels Program). Ginni also worked for Paul Thomas Shoes and the Council on Aging.
Ginni confessed her love for Christ at an early age and was a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she was very dedicated to the Elkhart community. She served on the Citizens for a Better Elkhart PAC, volunteered for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and The United Way and was a member of the Take Six Travel Club. Ginni also was a past member of the Mental Health Association Board and the Elkhart Police Department Chaplain Committee. For many years she was actively involved with the Elkhart Chapter Indiana Black Expo and served in many capacities - including Chapter President. Ginni loved to travel, host “Camp Memo” for her granddaughter and coordinate family gatherings. She truly loved spending time with her family and friends. Ginni was extremely creative and will be missed for her wonderful spirit and infectious personality.
Funeral services are Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 12:00pm. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at Agape Missionary Baptist Church, 248 W. Wolf Avenue, Elkhart. Rev. Danny T.
