Victor Gran Life Story

ELKHART — Victor Don “Duke” Gran Jr., 87, of Elkhart, passed away June 4, 2018. 

He was born May 30, 1931, in Elkhart, to Victor Sr. and Carrie (Dawson) Gran. 

He married Laura Barlow on Feb. 29, 1952.

He was an assembler at Wheelabrator for 38 years and was the very last employee in the area when the factory moved south. 

He liked to spend time feeding the birds at his home in Elkhart. 

He loved to spend time in his shop, either fixing or parting out bicycles, lawn mowers, or whatever he could get his hands on. 

He also loved music and dancing and was an avid Cubs fan. 

He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Gran; children Michael (Lynn) Gran, Nancy (Scott) Raines and Timothy (Mary) Gran; grandchildren Konan Crisp, Michael Gran, Tabitha Butts, Philip Gran, Sandra Gran, Dustan Gran and Katie Gran; 10 great-grandchildren; four nieces; brother-in-law Bill (Anita) Barlow; and lifetime friends Harry and Phillis Gilbert.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joe Gran.

There will be graveside services for Duke at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2018, in Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.

Arrangements are under the care of Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
