Tonda Renee (Roby) Lewis

Ms. Tonda Renee Lewis, 63, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Elkhart General Hospital following an illness. She was born on September 7, 1959, in Gary, to the late Melvin and Barbara Roby, but Tonda was raised most of her life by her great aunt and uncle, Ora (Lee) and Manzo Williams, who also precede her in death as well as her late husband, Otis K. Lewis, Jr., sons Dallas and Nicholas Lewis and J.W. Roby, and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving Tonda are her children Daisy D. Lewis and Caprice Roby, both of the Elkhart area; several more brothers and sisters; 18 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a host of loving extended family, good friends and neighbors.

Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart are honored to be hosting Tonda’s homegoing arrangements, which are, by request, private. Tonda is to be buried next to her son, Nicholas at Little Pine Cemetery in Goshen at a later date.

Tonda was a homemaker and took great pride in keeping her home clean and tidy. Her daughter described her as a “textbook mom”, perfect in every way and full of love, understanding and encouragement. She was also described of having a heart of gold and always a kind word for everyone she met. She had been through a lot throughout her life, and always tended to see the glass as half full rather than half empty. She was a loving and kind soul and had a tender heart for those who were at a disadvantage. Her love knew no bounds and would always come back full circle to bless her as she had many caring friends and acquaintances herself.

She attended the True Vine Church in Elkhart. She loved going to church and her Christian beliefs were very strong in her. She always considered herself a spiritual lady, which is most likely why she got along so well with others. Another one of God’s Angels too soon taken.
