Thomas Lee Horein

Thomas Lee Horein, 69, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday November 24, 2021 at Elkhart General Hospital, after a hard fought battle with Myotonic Dystrophy. Thomas was born on July 5, 1952 in Mishawaka, to the late John M. and Harriett Louise (Crofoot) Horein.

Thomas graduated from Penn High School, class of 1971. He received his BS in music from Ball State in 1975 and his Masters in 1977 from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

He married the former Brenda Kay Eberly on August 3, 1990 in Bristol.

Surviving is his wife of 31 years, Brenda Kay Horein; four children; Robert Horein, John Bibbee, Rebecca (Rick) Loar and Lisa (Kaleb) Thacker; nine loving grandchildren, whom he adored; three brothers, Donn (Billie) Horein, Dennis (Karen) Horein and Rex (Julie) Horein.

In addition to his parents, his brothers, twin, Tim Horein and Terry Horein preceded him in death.

Thomas taught general music and was a band and orchestra teacher in the Elkhart Community School Corporation for 30 years. A talented trumpet player, and a music lover, Tom taught music to thousands of students over the years. He played in many bands in this area, including the band Daybreak. Thomas also ran a booking and entertainment agency for musicians.

Thomas loved photography, traveling with Brenda, attending the Elkhart Jazz fest and other concerts. Most of all, Thomas loved his family. He was just a great guy, who will be deeply missed.

Visitation for Thomas will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. Cremation will follow.

A celebration of life service will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Faith United Methodist Church, 22045 CR 18, Goshen. Pastor John Hogsett will officiate.
