Ms. Susan Gloria “Sue” Stuckman, 79, of Elkhart, passed away in her home on January 4, 2022. She was born on October 5, 1942 in Marinette, Wisconsin to the late Robert and Violet (Kubiak) Stuckman. Surviving is her sister Linda (Thomas) Reed of Elkhart, niece Jody (Dan) McDonough of Bristol, nephew Jason (Angie) Reed of Elkhart, and great nephews Steven and Brady Reed of Elkhart, Matthew (Mackenzie) McDonough of Goshen and Samuel McDonough of Bristol.
Education was an important part of Sue’s life and after graduating from Elkhart Central High School in 1960 with a 4.0 GPA, she attended St. Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana University in Bloomington, and New York University. She was an active, life-long (since 1946) member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Elkhart, where she attended many religious programs, seminars and retreats.
Sue was an active environmentalist, belonging to the Elkhart Conservation Club, City Gardeners, the Cobus Creek Watershed Project and the Indiana Native Plant Society, North Chapter. She was also a level 1000 Master Gardener.
Sue enjoyed traveling with friends, and she visited many places including countless state parks in Indiana, Illinois and Michigan; traveled Canada, cruised Alaska and saw Colorado’s many national parks by rail. In her quiet time, she enjoyed being a member of Heartland Quilting as well as a local book club, and also spending time outdoors around her home tending to the native plants that grew in her yard.
She retired from Press Ganey Associates of South Bend in April of 2004.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main Street, Elkhart on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 5:00 pm, with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 4:00 pm. The Reverend Jason Freiburger will officiate the service and burial will take place with a private family service at a later date. Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart have been assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family have requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
