Steven John Bertch

Steven John Bertch, 61, of Elkhart, IN, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, July 31, 2021. He was born on Saturday, December 22nd 1959, to Marie Frances Gephard Bertch Bender and the late Jack Bertch and was raised by the late Mike “Milo” Bender. Steven is preceded in death by a brother, Terry Bender.  

Steven was a graduate of Memorial High  School. He was formerly employed by Dexter Manufacturing, where he worked in the welding department.  

Steven is survived by his mother, Marie Frances Bertch Bender of Elkhart, a son, Jacob Bertch and his beloved Jenna Buskirk of Wilmington, NC, two daughters; Holly Hemenway of Elkhart and Lindsey Bertch and her beloved Shane Marker of Goshen, a brother; John Bender and his wife Becky of Elkhart, and two sisters; Susan Sowers and her husband Bob of Niles, MI, and Pam Robinson of Elkhart, eight grandchildren and one great grandson.  

Steven was always the first to the rescue, when asked to help anybody out, and was there till the end of the duty or job that was assigned to be done.  He was also known to his loving family as the pain in the keister. He was abrasively gold hearted, fussing and griping all of the time. And that's just the way he was.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the DAV #19 or VFW.  

A visitation will be held on Wednesday August 4th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St, Elkhart, IN.  The Celebration Of Life service will follow at 6:00 PM at Billings Funeral Home with Brother John Bender officiating. The family will celebrate a private committal service.
