Sheron Louise Weiss, 75, born August 15, 1946, in Sacramento, CA to Donald L. and Donna Z. (Meads) VanderVeen, passed away peacefully at 1:45 P.M. on Saturday, November 13, 2021.
She grew up in Sacramento, graduating in 1964. Here is where she met her husband of 48 years, Kentland W. Weiss. They were married on March 15, 1965, in Carson City, NV.
Sheron is survived by her four daughters, Katherine E. Weiss of Goshen, Christine L. Weiss of Shipshewana, IN, Veronica L. Weiss of Kalamazoo, MI, Pepper R. (Joel) Chmiel of Goshen; one son, David E. Weiss; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews.
Sheron was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother, Richard L. VanderVeen.
For over 46 years, Sheron volunteered her time serving as a minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Even after declining health, she continued to dedicate her time and passion to encouraging ones in her ministry work. She also spent a number of years as a lunch server for Elkhart Community School System and especially enjoyed providing lunches in summer for kids in need.
Sheron loved conversation and enjoyed many warm friendships. She enjoyed crafting, sowing many dresses, crocheting many blankets, and making her children home-made toys, including Barbie doll houses, and even a Star Wars canteen. Later in life, she enjoyed vacations with her husband and friends, visiting the Smoky Mountains and cruising on classic Mississippi riverboats.
She enjoyed perfecting her homemade wines and sharing her aged work with family and friends. She had a passion for reading, enjoying sci-fi, mysteries, and the many life experiences found in the Yearbooks of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 27th at 4:00 PM over Zoom. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart is in care of arrangements.
