Rosemary (Barbaro) Mitchell

Rosemary L. Mitchell, 71, of Elkhart, IN passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Belltower Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Rosemary was born on May 9, 1949 in Elkhart to the late Frank and Mary (Cappelletti) Barbaro. She married Thomas “Larry” Mitchell on November 24, 1974 in Elkhart. He passed away on July 18, 2019. Rosemary is preceded in death by her parents, infant, Brandon Lee and daughter, Amanda Marie Mitchell and brother, Matthew Lee Barbaro.

Rosemary is survived by her children, Shannon (Richard) Black of Granger and Matthew (Brianne) Mitchell of South Bend; grandson, Dominic; brothers, Rocco Barbaro of Goshen, Frank Barbaro of Georgia and Larry Barbaro of Elkhart; many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends and her dog, “Baby Cakes”.

Rosemary worked as a housekeeper at Elkhart General Hospital for many years. She also worked at White Hall and CTS. Rosemary enjoyed her work very much and made many close connections with co-workers throughout the years.Rosemary was always known to brighten peoples' days with her wonderful sense of humor and positive attitude. She was an avid thrift store and garage sale shopper and always picked out thoughtful, unique gifts for her friends and family. Rosemary was known for being incredibly generous and always putting others before herself. She also enjoyed traveling, playing Euchre with friends, seeing movies at the theater, and gardening. Rosemary loved swimming and was known for being at the pool all summer long. She was also known for her delicious pasta sauce and meatballs which she made for her family with every holiday as a tradition.  She was an incredibly loving mother, grandmother, wife, and a friend to so many loved ones in her life.

A Celebration of Rosemary’s Life Service will be at 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 with Pastor Jeremy Sarber officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Billings Funeral Home, 821 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 is assisting the family
