Rose "Roseann" Johnson Life Story

Ms. Rose Ann (Berry) Johnson, of Bristol (lovingly known as Roseann), passed away peacefully of natural causes on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 6:30 am in the comfort of her home. She was 72.

She was born on May 16, 1951 in Elkhart to the late Shirley (Frantz) Ostrom and step-father Gene Ostrom, Sr., and was the faithful and doting wife of Delno D. “Del” Johnson, whom she married in Elkhart in 1969. He passed away in Elkhart in 2019 after 50 years of marriage.

Surviving are Roseann’s children Timothy (Barbara) Johnson of Elkhart and Jennifer (Teresa Clifford) Hartl of Bristol; brother Gene (Deb) Ostrom, Jr., of Elkhart; sister Theresa (James) Richardson of Goshen; sister-in-law Barb Berry; grandchildren Nicole (Michael) Sevison, Ashley and Ryan Painter, Britteny (Ryan) Hathaway, Stephanie (Michael) Muncie, Kurt Hartl, Jr., Rebecca (Casey) Adams, Glen (Sarah Hahn) Hartl and Tori Hartl; great grandchildren Skylar and Hazel Sevison, Wyatt, Weston and Wrenley Adams, Remington, Colten, Warren and Addisyn Muncie and Madelyn Tucker, and a host of extended family and good friends. Besides her parents and Del, Roseann was preceded in death by a brother, Bud Berry; a son-in-law Kurt Hartl, Sr., and a grandson, Timothy Hartl.

In accordance with Roseann’s wishes, cremation is to take place with the assistance of Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. A celebration of Roseann’s life will take place on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 11am – 1 pm at Studebaker Pavilion, Studebaker Park, Elkhart.

Roseann worked nearly her entire adult life as a professional seamstress but preferred the company of her family and comfort of her home over anything. She loved to curl up in front of her TV and soak up all of the true crime, courtroom or murder and death investigation programs she could. Her family kidded that she watched soooo many of these shows that she could probably commit the perfect murder and even if she did become a suspect, she could get off because of her vast knowledge of courtroom procedure thanks to Judge Judy, Judge Alex, Judge Mathis, Judge Jeanine…(The list goes on!)

However, the one thing that would get Roseann to abandon watching her living room law school degree was someone mentioning going to the (any) casino. From New Buffalo to Tahoe to Vegas to Florida and even way down in the Bahamas, mama Roseann loved to hit the slots, and boy could she pick a machine. We should probably mention at this point that Roseann was certainly NOT a frivolous gambler, but she sure could make those penny ante machines make all kinds of noise!! She was also quite the puzzle book and word search aficionado as well as an accomplished cross-stitcher.
