Roger Jay Pressler, 72, of Elkhart, IN passed away on November 18, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children. He finally succumbed to his decade long battle with Dementia and Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). Roger was born on December 27, 1950, to Cecil and Eva Pressler of Elkhart, IN. After graduating from Elkhart High School in 1969, he was drafted into US Army where he served 2 years as a member of the82nd Airbourne. Roger then joined the Air National Guard Reserve and was stationed out of Battle Creek, MI where he would retire after 22 years of service. While attending Elkhart High School, Roger met the love of his life, Eileen (Emery) Pressler. The two have been inseparable ever since. They wed in 1972 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Portage, MI. Their marriage was firmly rooted in their Catholic faith and the definition of unconditional love. Fars and Chic (as they lovingly would refer to each other) would go on to have four children, and ten grandchildren. Roger would be described as a simple, strong, quiet, kind, God-fearing and giving man. All those who were lucky enough to know Roger, knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. His humor, work-ethic, and gentle spirit set him apart from all others. He was/is truly one of a kind. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He spent every day of his life providing, protecting, guiding, and teaching his children, and eventually his grandchildren, through his actions. Roger’s hobbies outside of time spent with his family included woodworking and landscaping. Roger was a passionate carpenter who spent endless hours building and creating things for all of his loved ones. Roger also loved to be outside working in his yard and landscaping. Roger was preceded in death by both of his parents (Cecil and Eva Pressler) as well as three brothers (Lewis Pressler, Cecil (CJ) Pressler, and William (Bill) Pressler). Roger leaves behind his loving wife, Eileen Pressler. He also leaves their 4 children: Chris (Amy) Pressler, Jeff (Emily) Pressler, Joe (April) Pressler, Katie (John) Pickard. He also has 10 surviving grandchildren: Colin, Noah, Caroline, Mya, Leah, Emery, Alison, Lewis, Lucy, and Oliver. Roger is also leaving behind several siblings (Dick Pressler, Art Pressler, Marla Groff, and Ron (Jackie) Pressler) as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A visitation will be held on November 27, at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart from 4pm-7pm. There will be an hour of visitation on November 28, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Elkhart prior to the 11am funeral mass. The family is asking in lieu of flowers that a donation be made on Roger’s behalf to the Alzheimer’s Association (End ALZ) or The Wounded Warrier Project (wounded warrior). The family has chosen cremation, burial with military honors will be at a later date at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan. Condolences may be made online at www.billingsfuneralhome.com
