Rickey Edward Barnes, 68, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 11, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born on August 14, 1952 in Cassopolis, Michigan to the late Sylvester Barnes II and Dorothy (Goins) Breckenridge.
He is survived by his wife Beatrice Barnes; daughter Rochelle Barnes-Davis and a step-son Corey B. Davis; 9 grandchildren; Rakeena (Amin) Hammou-Tahra, Joslin Barnes, Briana Barnes, Michael T. Davis, Jr., Nadia Davis, Anja Davis and Johnathan Davis and 5 great grandchildren; Kayan, Iyanna, Keenan and Iman. He also leaves behind 6 brothers and sisters, Kenneth (Lena) Barnes, Diane Marshall, Minister Tedario and Rev. Linda Barnes, Cynthia Barnes, Mairus “Mike” Barnes, Beth Ann Schemenaur and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Rickey retired from Doctor’s Hospital of Jackson, MI., where he worked in the maintenance department and was a union steward. He was a member of Lighthouse Community Church of God in Christ in Redford, MI. Ricky was very handy, and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed working on cars.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm, with visitation 1 hour prior on Tuesday, November 17, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. His brother Tedario Barnes and his wife, the Rev. Linda Barnes will officiate. Burial and graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Detroit Memorial Park West, Redford, Michigan. The Rev.
