Phyllis June Flamion, 87, residing in Elkhart, passed away Wednesday morning, May 5, 2021 at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Phyllis was born on March 14, 1934 in Goshen, Indiana to the late Perry LaMar and Edna (Lamb) Edsall. She married her true love Gayle H. Flamion on May 22, 1954 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Goshen. Gayle passed away on August 24, 2007.
Surviving are their children Gayle Windsor, Sue (Dan) Yamtich, John (Doris) Flamion and James Flamion; also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, husband Gayle and son Phillip, she was preceded by brothers Irvin Edsall, Robert Edsall; sisters Dorothy Smith, Barbara Ramza, Edith McQuay and Mary Neterer.
Phyllis was the DRE (Director of Education at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church for 14 years. Phyllis and Gayle were long time member of St. Thomas where she was a member of the POH (Pursuit of Happiness) Club. She was a Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed collecting Giraffes and loved the Blue Ridge Mountains.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 10, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior, all at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St. Elkhart. The Reverend Jason Freiburger will celebrate. Cremation will follow the Mass, with burial at a later date at Oakridge Cemetery in Bristol.
If so desired, the family requests memorials be given to Alzheimer’s Association or to St Thomas the Apostle School.
