Mr. Michael Gene Comer, 65, passed away Sunday morning, July 31, 2022 at his home, surrounded by love and his family. Mike was born on August 3, 1956 in Elkhart to the late Harold G. and Shirley Mae (Stewart) Comer. He married his best friend and true love, Brenda C. Aenis on October 22, 1977. Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Brenda C. Comer; daughter, Bethany (Ryan) Henly, son Michael D. (Micah) Comer; three loving grandchildren, who called him PaPa Choo Choo, Brian D. Comer, Lucas M. Comer, and Benjamin R. Henly. Also surviving are two brothers, Steven (Penny) Comer, David Comer, and a sister Julie (Dick) Morgan, also several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, a sister Deborah Comer and daughter-in-law Amanda Comer, preceded Mike in death.
Mike graduated in 1975 from Elkhart Central High School. He worked for Homan Lumber company, in various capacities, for 22 years, including counter sales, Yard Forman, and was the rental manager when he left Homan’s. Mike was very hard working, and formerly worked at Crosby Foundry, Suntimer’s Ace Hardware, Adams & Westlake LTD., Palmer Hardware, Globestar, and helped a friend open and run the Radio Shack store in Nappanee. While Mike had a great work history and made many friends and customers over the years, it was his faith in Jesus Christ and his love for his family that came first and was most important to him.
Mike served in church youth ministry from 1978 until 2010. He was also a Sunday school teacher, lay speaker and trustee of the church. Mike had many hobbies and passions; he was a Ham Radio Operator, call sign KD9INS, and was an asst. SKYWARN Manager (storm spotter) with the SKYWARN Amateur Radio Network and National Weather Service. He also enjoyed talking on his CB radio, his handle being the "Redbomb". Mike was a HO model train enthusiasts and enjoyed camping. He will be missed and loved by many.
A celebration of life service for Michael G. Comer, will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Pastor Leroy Wise of Osceola UMC will officiate. Cremation was chosen and will follow the service.
