Mary L. “LaVeda” Yaciw, 95, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2020, at Sprenger Healthcare in Mishawaka. Mary was born on August 14, 1924 in Mishawaka, one of 10 children born to Noble and Audrey (Neff) Slabaugh. In addition to her parents, Mary’s husbands Noel Wolford and Michael “Mike” Yaciw, as well as nine brothers and sisters, Merle, Echo, Ruth, Dorothy, Esther, Billy, Patsy, Betty and James, preceded her in death.
Surviving are 9 children, Donna Anderson, Ross Wolford, Jane (David) Whiteman, Dale (Tina) Wolford, Brent Yaciw, Randy (Debra) Yaciw, Mitchel Yaciw, Belann (Ken) Bennett and Joe (Jennifer) Yaciw; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren survive as well.
Mary worked for the former Ball Band Corp. in Mishawka for 17 years. She enjoyed painting rocks, camping and fishing, especially at Cook Lake in Plymouth, IN with her family and grandchildren. Mary was an animal lover and avid walker.
Per her wishes, cremation was chosen. Services and burial will be at a later date at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawka. Memorials may be given to Humane Society of St. Joseph Co.
