Leonard "Michael" Hunt, Sr. Life Story

Mr. Leonard M. “Michael” Hunt, Sr., 65, of Granger, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at his home following an extended illness. He was born on April 30, 1957, in Osceola, Arkansas to the late James A. and Annie D. (Reese) Hunt Sailor.

Surviving Michael are his children Amy (Tim) Schmucker of Bristol, Leonard M. “Michael” Hunt, Jr. of New York City and Megan K. Hunt of Elkhart; brothers Dennis Hunt and Brandon Watts, both of Elkhart; sisters Dianne (Buddy) Stiewing of Elkhart, Tammy Jo (Frank Miller) Hunt also of Elkhart and Cynthia J. Hunt of Edwardsburg, Michigan and granddaughter Langston Schmucker.

Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart is hosting Michael’s homegoing service on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 12:00 noon, with visitation beginning there at 10 am. Billings Chaplain Jeremy Sarber will officiate and burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.

Michael was the owner/operator of Hunt’s Septic Service, and he hauled around his truckload of “Political Promises” most of his adult life until his health required his early retirement. Michael enjoyed what he did and went about his work with joy in his heart. He was a hard worker with a strong work ethic. He was considered an old-school “man’s man” who could do and fix just about anything. It was always important to Michael that he do the best he could, as he wanted to leave a legacy of integrity and honesty. Equally important was that every person should be treated with dignity and respect.

When Michael wasn’t working, he was usually in his pole barn tinkering on his cars (he was a serious classic car, hot rod and antique car enthusiast) or simply sitting in the garage watching all of the wildlife come and visit him on his property. He also loved to read, play his guitar and was a very talented artist who enjoyed drawing.

Finally, it should be mentioned that he was a devout Notre Dame football fan, he was a hopeless devotee of Tom Brady and he loved to jam out to the rock tunes of his youth.
