Leillah Davis Life Story

Leillah Ann “Lee Ann” Davis, 81 passed away in the love and comfort of her family at her Elkhart home on Tuesday morning, September 14, 2021. She was born on December 1, 1939 in Elkhart, a daughter of the late Donald and June (Martin) Price. In addition to her parents, she was sadly preceded in death by her sister Sharon M. Willard.  

She had a son, Jeffrey (Kirsten) Davis, two daughters, Lauri Arber and Dawn (Randy) Luthringer. Also surviving are her loving grandchildren; Jonathan Arber, Jacob Davis, David Arber, Sarah O'Grady, Rachael(Evan) Cummings, Victoria Arber, Spencer(Brook) Hess, Connor (Destiny) Davis, Caleb Luthringer, Courteney Davis and Cole Davis.  Her great grandchildren include; Annibell Arber, Isaac Cummings, Michael Davis, Lucy Leillah Cummings, Isabella Davis, Leo Cummings and Mary Davis.  Her Aunt Betty Huffman and Uncle Robert Price also survive her.

LeeAnn was a 1957 graduate of Elkhart High School.  She also attended Indiana University and attended many technical classes through GTE from which she retired  in 1991.  After her retirement from GTE,  Lee Ann served as the office manager at Majestic Structures.

Leillah had many loves and interest. She was a woman of great faith. She enjoyed reading scripture and sharing her faith.  She was a founding member of Bethany Missionary Church and had attended Adamsville Road Church of God, Calvary Assembly of God and Bethel Assembly of God. 

In addition to her love of God, Lee Ann had a profound love of her family. She was a loving and active mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Lee Ann was lovingly known as “Grandma Chicken," for her live chickens that she had at her house.  Lee Ann attended all the events and school functions of her children and grandchildren and always gave words of encouragement, love and hope. 

After God and family, came her love of Genealogy, she has spent the last 30+ years meticulously working on her family and friend's genealogy.  Lee Ann traveled around the country, walking in many cemeteries and doing research at multiple libraries and utilizing online resources. Some of the primary names she researched were Davis, Martin, Mitchel and Price.

Her other interests include gardening, cooking, traveling and architectural design.  Her gardens always brought peace and joy to everyone who experienced them.  She loved to share her passion of gardening with her family.  Lee Ann was an excellent cook and took pleasure in teaching her children and grandchildren how to carry on longstanding family traditions. In her spare time Lee Ann enjoyed creating house plans and was always doodling, making notes and drawing.  Lee Ann also traveled around the United States with friends and family and spent a month traveling through the Northern Europe with her daughter Dawn.

 LeeAnn served on the credit committee for the Associated Employee Federal Credit Union and was a volunteer and mentor for several years at Mary Feeser Elementary School.   She also organized many activities for groups at both her churches and places of employment.

Services celebrating the life of this amazing mother, grandmother, friend and loved one will begin at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021. Visitation with her family will begin at 1:00 p.m. until the service time at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. Pastor Jeremy Saber will officiate. Per her wishes, cremation was chosen.
