LaDonne Hoelyfield, 79, of Elkhart, was called home on Monday, February 1, 2021 at The Raclin House in Mishawaka. She was born in Freeport, IL on November 26, 1941 to the late Thaddeus and Margaret (Shivers) Taylor.
LaDonne is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Eddie J. Hoelyfield Sr.; son, Eddie J. (Heather) Hoelyfield Jr.; daughter, Yvette J. Hoelyfield, Yvonne J. Hoelyfield, and Yolanda J. (James) Lewis; grandchildren, Cody Hoelyfield, Jazzmin Hoelyfield, Jo’von Hoelyfield, A.J. Lewis, Josiah Lewis, and Jaiden Lewis; great grandchildren, Carter J. Hoelyfield and Presley Hoelyfield; brothers, Kevin Taylor, Steve Taylor, Thaddeus Taylor Jr., Cecil Taylor, and Greg Taylor; and sister, Carla Green. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marsha Marshall.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, cremation was chosen. A family celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart with visitation to follow from 3-4 p.m.
LaDonne was an outspoken, opinionated, and independent woman who remained strong in her values. She grew up in Freeport, IL where she went to church at St. Paul Missionary Baptist. She married the love of her life, Eddie J. Hoelyfield Sr. in August of 1962 and worked for Crittson Financial for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, solving crossword puzzles, reading thriller novels, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and taking care of her plants. LaDonne will be missed by her loving family.
