Mrs. Kelly Diane Sappington, 58, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 8:09 pm, following an extended illness. She was born October 13, 1962 in Amarillo, TX to the late Pat and Diana (Dobbins) Barrick. On Christmas Eve 2000, she married Terrence “Terry” Sappington in Elkhart. He survives at home after just 47 days shy of a 20 year beautiful marriage.
Also surviving are her children Samantha (Kyle) Humbert, Alison (Angie) Pippenger, Alix Sappington and Carson Sappington; siblings Lenny Reed, Shana (Brad) Fryer and Stacy (Hen) Rife, Linda Tarkington and Robert Evans; special niece and nephew Casey (Preston) McReynolds and Chad (Amanda) Fryer; her step-father Curt Reed (who raised her along with Diana) and a host of loving extended family, friends and business associates.
No immediate services have been planned, and, in accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu if a traditional service, the family has decided to celebrate Kelly’s life and memory by presenting a video memorial tribute that everyone will be able to watch. Unlike a standard tribute video, Kelly’s memorial tribute will include a virtual service including a blessing from a pastor, video tributes and memories sent in from family and friends, and special music, pictures, and stories. Family and friends are asked to watch for the video memorial tribute here at Kelly’s obituary page at the funeral home’s website, where it will be posted as soon as it is completed. The family felt that Kelly deserved this rather than having to settle for social distancing, masks and “elbow bumps”. The staff at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart have been assisting Terry with the arrangements.
Kelly moved around quite a bit in her youth but wound up settling down in Cassopolis, MI, where she graduated in 1981. She started her business career at a local G.L. Perry variety store and went on to become an independent small business owner (Katsix, LLC) as well as being affiliated with one of the country’s leading software consulting firms, DeRosa Mangold of Waco, Texas.
Kelly’s family would very much appreciate any stories or comments, as they may become part of Kelly’s tribute. Anyone wishing to upload pictures, videos or video testimonies may do so by sending them to https://www.tributeslides.com/up/140806534699. We hope that your sharing will help everyone to enjoy this beautiful blend of tradition and technology to celebrate Kelly’s life.
Donations may be given in Kelly’s memory to the Humane Society of Elkhart County and thank you for your interest in Kelly’s life story.
