Kathy Ann Sponseller

Kathy Ann (Herzberg) Sponseller, 67, of Elkhart, passed away Friday afternoon, November 10, 2023 at her home, with her loving family at her side. Kathy was born on September 6, 1956 in Elkhart to the late J. Paul and LaVerne Angeline (Zimm) Herzberg. In addition to her parents, a brother Robert P. “Bob” Herzberg preceded her in death.

On September 25, 1993, Kathy married Steven K. Sponseller, Steven survives, as well as her children, Jamie (Cindy) Posey, Jessie (Nikki Mogle) Sponseller, Stephanie Cheri Sponseller; six grandchildren Elijah Morris, Isaiah Morris, Khloe Sponseller, Sebastian Sponseller, Greyson Sponseller and Mackoi Sponseller. Also surviving is a brother Richard (Audrey) Herzberg and three sisters, Mary (James) Burns, Nancy (James) Morningstar and Barbie (Jan Brabec) Herzberg.

Kathy was a 1975 graduate of Elkhart Memorial High School and a member of the cheerleading squad. Kathy’s background was in bookkeeping and office work. She worked for her father Paul at Reliable Metalcraft for 10 years, with her husband Steven in their business, Solid Rock, Inc., Ruthmere Museum as a docent for many years, and then worked for the Goshen Chamber of Commerce for 18 years, running the office.

Kathy was very active. She loved to go to the casino and also enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling, canning, scrap booking, making stained glass pieces, cooking, and working out doing Pilates.

A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at a future date. Per Kathy’s wishes, cremation was chosen under the care of Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart Condolences may be made online to her family at www.billingsfuneralhome.com
