Katherine “Kathy” M. Hemminger, 80, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Elkhart General Hospital.
Kathy was born on June 26, 1942, in North Liberty, IN. She married John L. Hemminger on August 11, 1973, in Elkhart, IN.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Betty J. Anderson and Daniel V. Soli, and a sister, Madelyn “Topsy” Huffman.
Kathy is survived by her devoted husband, John, of Elkhart; her favorite son, Randy (Colleen) Voelkert; and most-loved daughter, Suzie (Terry) Hart, both of Elkhart; beautiful sisters, Jennie (Philip) McDonald of South Bend and Ondalee Kline of Aurora, CO; 10 oustanding grandchildren and 16 adorable great grandchildren.
Kathy was a paralegal for many years working with local law offices in the area before retiring in 2010.
She was an animal lover, who rescued and spoiled many dogs and gave them forever homes. Kathy enjoyed many crafts including sewing, crocheting, and making jewelry for those she loved. She enjoyed writing and once authored a poem which was published in a book produced by I.U.
Most of all, she loved her family beyond measure. She will be remembered most for being the matriarch of her family, a giving grandmother, and always classy.
Her quick wit and sense of humor carried on throughout her final days.
A Funeral Service for Katherine will be held at 12:00 noon, on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 with Pastor Tony Tice officiating.
Friends and family may visit with the family 2 hours prior to the start of the service from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
Burial will be at Hepton Union Cemetery in Nappanee at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
