Joseph John “JJ" Weidner Jr., 74 of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, May 7, 2023, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, In. JJ was born on October 9, 1948, in South Bend to the late Joseph J. Weidner Sr. and Lillian (Ivins) Weidner. In addition to his parents a brother Jim Weidner preceded him in death.
He married Donna J. (White) Floyd on December 16, 1989, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Surviving is his wife of 33 years Donna J. Weidner; two sons, Keith (Maria) Floyd of Overland Park, KS., Barry (Angie) Floyd of Noblesville, IN., and five grandchildren, Shawna (Kevin McAdams) Bentley, Collin Bentley and girlfriend Cameron Detar, Gavin Floyd, Anna (Floyd) Gomez, Dezmond Gomez, and three great grandchildren; Ozmandias Gomez, Dalilah and Valentino Alvarado. Also surviving is a brother Jerald (Criselia) Weidner and four sisters Lillian (Bill) Walz, Kathleen “Kathy” Weidner, Eileen Weidner, Molly (Mike Aho) Weidner; and many nieces and nephews.
Joseph John or JJ, as he was fondly known, was working in asset protection at Walmart for the past 15 years. He also taught computer classes at Holy Family School in South Bend and formerly worked as a “headhunter” for Management Services, an employment agency, run by his good friend Jerry Harter.
A devout Catholic, JJ attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and served as a Eucharist Minister of Holy Communion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Elkhart Council #1043 and Elkhart Moose Lodge #599. He was an avid Notre Dame Fan.
Friends and family may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. A parish rosary will be prayed beginning at 4:00 p.m., visitation will follow until 6:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 15, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with 1 hour calling prior at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church 1108 S. Main St. Elkhart, Reverend Glenn Kohrman will officiate. Burial and graveside services will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery.
