Joseph "Joe" Linton Life Story

Mr. Joseph Ronald “Joe” Linton, of Edwardsburg, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 9:41 pm at Memorial Hospital in South Bend following a terminal seizure brought about by recent health issues. He was 42.

He was born on February 10, 1981 in Elkhart to the late Stephen R. Linton and Sheryl S. Teasdale. He was engaged to Kristi Dunn, who survives Joe in South Bend.

Also surviving are Joe’s children Stephen M., Bryce J., Jaxson R., and Hope A. Linton. All reside in Cassopolis, Michigan. Additionally, he is survived by his brothers Trevelyn R. “Trev” (Tami) Linton of Franklin, Virginia and Joe's twin Joshua E. “Josh” (April) Linton of Tipp City, Ohio; his grandma Mary Linton Lau of Elkhart, his aunts Cathy (Dale) Snow, Leslie (Dan) Miller, and Rhonda Linton and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other extended family that will miss Joe very much. Along with his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his grandpa Ronald M. “Santa” Linton.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 2-4 pm at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. Following that, a memorial service will take place at 4:00 pm, where Military Honors will be rendered by the US Navy Funeral Honor Guard, the Elkhart Veterans Honor Guard and the Northern Indiana Patriot Guard, followed by a religious service conducted by family friend Honorable Judge Carol Montavon Bealor.

Joe was a production supervisor at Utilimaster at the time of his passing, but his family would tell you that he was happiest when he was on an adventure with his children, kayaking and biking around Eagle Lake. The lake also provided the perfect backdrop for the countless number of family gatherings and cook-outs that Joe participated in, volunteering each time to be the official grill cook, a role that everyone enjoyed seeing Joe perform.

Joe was an honorably discharged US Navy veteran, serving on two Mediterranean deployments in the early 2000’s as a Machinist Repairman, finally being discharged as an E4. During his time with the Navy, he served on the destroyers USS Spruance (DD 963) and the USS The Sullivans (DDG 68). Joe had always considered himself a devout patriot and had joined the Navy the year leading up to the 9/11 attacks.

In the years after the Navy, Joe spent some time coaching elementary level soccer and high school wrestling (following in the footsteps of his late dad, Steve) and also spent several years helping his grandpa Ron run the family cemetery monument business following his dad Steve’s untimely death in 2003. He was an active member of NA serving in a number of leadership and mentor roles. In his free time, Joe loved to play cards and video games with his family, friends and children. He will be best remembered for always bringing joy, his sense of humor, and being a positive influence to his children and to others.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made on behalf of his beloved children, Stephen, Bryce, Jaxson and Hope, by accessing the Venmo account using the QR Code provided.
