Jessie Kay (Sutterby) Gilbert, 68, of Middlebury, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Elkhart Meadows. She was born on January 18, 1955, to the late Edmond Sr. and Pearl “Alberta” (Ostrom) Sutterby.
Jessie is survived by her loving daughter, Jennifer (Stacy) Butler of Elkhart; loving granddaughters, Danielle Gilbert of Elkhart, and Megan Cyrus of Montana; brothers, Edmond “Cook” Sutterby Jr., Rex (Gina) Sutterby, and Mike Sutterby, all of Elkhart; sister, Judith “Judy” Beaudoin of Middlebury; and a loving host of nieces, nephews, friends, and acquaintances.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents; loving son, Kenneth Gilbert Jr.; and brother, Steve Sutterby.
Services for Jessie will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Billings Funeral Home with visitation from 4 PM to 6 PM with a service to immediately follow beginning at 6 PM. Pastor Jeremy Sarber of Billings Funeral Home will be officiating. After Tuesday’s services, cremation will follow.
Jessie was employed at United Shade for over 20 years here in Elkhart.
In her spare time, Jessie enjoyed listening to live music, whether it be oldies, gospel, or even the Elkhart Jazz Festival. She also enjoyed taking walks through local parks such as Bonneyville Park, Ox Bow Park, and the Mishawaka Riverwalk. When Jessie would find herself at home, she enjoyed diving into a good mystery novel or TV show, gardening, caring for animals, and baking, being most famous for her strawberry cake.
Jessie was a devoted Christian, always taking the time to attend church and listen to words of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She adored being able to spread the hope and love of the church, especially with those closest to her.
Jessie will best be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend who adored all whom she met, especially her best friend and granddaughter, Danielle. She was a selfless, giving, and caring soul, always doing things for others or simply checking up on those around her. Jessie also had a bubbly, sassy, and strong personality, always being able to come out on top of every tough situation she endured.
Jessie, along with all the love and joy she shared, will be dearly missed by those whose hearts she touched throughout her life.
