Gerald A. Weaver

ELKHART: Gerald A. Weaver, 89, passed away Thursday evening, July 23, 2020 at Goshen Hospital. Gerald was born on June 23, 1931 in Milford, Indiana a son of the late Floyd and Goldie (Miller) Weaver. On August 5, 1951 he married the former Grace Edith Carroll; they were married for 63 years before she passed in 2015. Surviving are three children, Lawrence (Marie) Weaver, Deborah (John) Ellis and Patricia (Phillip) Smith; 5 grandchildren; Tammy (Jack) Medford, JoAnne Johnson, Eli (Gia) Winehart, Sarah Niswonger, Anna (Anthony) Tucker; as well as 8 great grandchildren, another expected soon and 9 great great grandchildren. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Grace and 3 brothers, Dale, Eugene and Wayne Weaver and a sister Edith Sautter.

Gerald heard the call of duty and enlisted in the United Sates Air Force, during the Korean War from August 31, 1951 until his honorable discharge, August 30, 1955, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He also served in the Air Force reserves until 1959.

Prior to and after his enlistment, he was working at Adams and Westlake LTD. as a stock clerk until they closed. He then went to work for Kropf Industries, where he set cabinets.

Gerald was very handy and enjoyed woodworking, yardwork, farming, working on cars and playing cards, especially euchre with his family and friends. He formerly attended the Vine Church.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, July 28, from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. Military honors by the U.S. Air Force Funeral Honor Guard, and DAV #19 will be rendered at the funeral home, Entombment will follow at Rice Cemetery. Memorials are requested to any organization supporting veterans.
