Frederick “Fred” Eugene Luckey II, 60, of Elkhart, passed away after fighting a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. He was born on August 28, 1962, in Kokomo, IN to the late Frederick E. Luckey I and Jacqueline Sue Nichols, who survives.
Fred is also survived by his daughters, Jennifer Wagner and Elizabeth Ann Luckey; stepson, Chris Wagner; 10 grandchildren; siblings, Jim (Joanna) Aldridge, Sherri (Russell) Duckworth, and Lorie (Larry) King; and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and sister, Tina Williams.
Fred was a hardworking, caring, and strong-willed man who would put his family first above anything else. He worked for several years in the RV industry as an electrician. Fred was fiercely independent and dedicated to his craft. He enjoyed getting his exercise by going on bike rides around Elkhart, playing real life Call of Duty with airsoft guns, and backpacking with his brother, Jim, on the Appalachian Trail. Together, they put in over 150 miles together. When he was younger, Fred was an amateur circuit and stock car racer.
Fred was a prankster and enjoyed teasing members of his family. He enjoyed dressing up in spooky costumes to scare the children on Halloween as well as making surprise visits to see his mother in Kentucky. Fred had a heart of gold and was brought up believing in a structured family. He made sure that at every meal the family would sit together and that he took time to create special memories with each of his grandchildren.
In accordance with Fred’s wishes, cremation was chosen and will take place at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart. A private celebration of life service for friends and family took place on May 4, 2023.
