Frederick Charles Barber

Frederick Charles “Fred” Barber, 47, residing in Elkhart, passed away early Sunday morning, October 24, 2021 at his home, with his mother Mae, at his side. Fred was born on December 15, 1973 in Elkhart to L.C. and Mae Jean (Cammack) Barber Jr.

Fred was a proud 1991 graduate of Jimtown High School, where he excelled at Football, winning the state championship his Senior year, he also participated in track and field, as a shot putter.

Fred formerly worked for 5 years at Carpenter Co. as a security guard and worked for many years at Gunite Corporation as a machine operator.

Fred was an avid fisherman and loved to play golf. He like to eat and was known for his BBQ. Fred was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Surviving is his mother, Mae Jean Barber, brother Leonard (Heidi) Barber, sister Angela Campbell; 3 nephews and a niece, Owen Peterkin, Lenisha (Barber) Roop, Linden Barber and Marcus Bickel.

He was preceded in death by his father L.C. Barber Jr., sister, Sophia Mowat and grandparents, L.C. and Alena Barber Sr. and Katie Mae and Eugene Cammack.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. In accordance with the families wishes, cremation will follow the visitation. Condolences may be made online to Fred’s family at www.billingsfuneralhome.com
