Emma Jean Reed, 78, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday morning, May 25, 2023, at Elkhart General Hospital. Emma was born on September 21, 1944, in Sandlick, Kentucky, to the late Marion Cook and Nannie (Adams) Cook. She was married on November 22, 1966, to Jimmy D. Reed in Clintwood, Virginia. Surviving is her husband of 56 years, Jimmy D. Reed; her daughter, Tammy J. (Tim) Jackson; two brothers, Roy (Linda) Cook, Johnny (Denise) Cook; and a sister, Linda Climer; and several nieces and nephews; she will be missed by her Shih Tzu “Penny.”
Emma was a loving mother and supportive wife; she was a strong-willed woman who was caring and nurturing. She was very much a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading her Bible, and listening to gospel music. She loved all animals and was known to take in and care for stray cats. She was very much loved and will be missed. In lieu of flowers, Emma’s family kindly requests memorial donations to Ark Animal Sanctuary/Ark Animal Rescue, 530 E 300 S, LaGrange, IN 46761.
A graveside service for Emma will be held this Saturday, May 27, at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Howe, Indiana. Chaplain Mike Pennington will officiate.
