Elizabeth Susan “Sue” Charlwood, 80, of Elkhart, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Elkhart General Hospital.
Sue was born on May 13, 1943 in Elkhart, IN to the late Willis and Dora (Bigler) Hershberger. She married Kenneth “Ken” Hershberger on March 25, 2002.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Dora, grandson, Tristan and brother, Peter.
Sue is survived by her husband of 21 years, Ken of Elkhart; children, Scott (Kerri) Charlwood, Chad (Amy) Charlwood, Cory Charlwood, Chris (Bethany) Charlwood, Michael (Dryscha) Hershberger and Cara (Gary) Gingerich; brothers and sister, Robert (Diane) Hershberger, Eldon (Nina) Hershberger, Jeff Hershberger, and Ella Mae (Brad) Burton; grandchildren, Erin (Kyle), Roxanne, Robert, James, Edwin, Gary and Gage; beloved nieces and nephews and special canine companion, Daisy.
Sue was a graduate of Concord High School. She and husband Ken also attended Union Center Church of Brethren in Nappanee and werepast members of Elkhart Valley Church of the Brethren. Sue was very active in “Church Life” including Sunday Youth Fair and Women’s Fellowship Group.
Sue was an office manager for many years at Lefever Plumbing and Heating in Elkhart. She also taught drama at Jimtown Public Schools.
Sue was a gifted lady with many talents including crocheting, quilting, and making teddy bears for children in the hospital. She enjoyed playing piano and singing. She performed with Elkhart Civic Theater in productions including Fiddler on the Roof, Music Man, and Annie.
She enjoyed musical theater, watching Jeopardy, going to trivia night with her husband and cheering on the Seattle Seahawks. Sue had a love of nature whether it was admiring the birds, her water garden, or out on the water fishing. Sue had an appreciation for all that was beautiful in the world.
Sue was a selfless, humble woman who personified Jesus throughout her life. She was a great friend, favorite aunt and doting grandmother.
A Celebration of Life for Sue will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Union Center Church of the Brethren Church, 70535 County Road 11, Nappanee, IN 46550 with Pastor Frank Ramirez officiating.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the start of service at the church from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
