Elaine F. Garner

OSECOLA — Elaine Fay (Hayes) Garner, 69, of Osceola, found her wings and flew home to her heavenly family Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born Feb. 15, 1949, in Elkhart, to William and Mary (Huff) Hayes.

Elaine graduated from Elkhart Central High School in 1972 and worked at Elkhart General Hospital for many years as a certified nursing assistant.

She was an avid animal lover.

She liked to go thrift store shopping.

She loved gospel, southern gospel, and country music.

She Loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.

She was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Zakro-Papan; son Brian (Kayle Hopper) Garner; grandchildren Audrey Marie, Kogan Patrick, Kadin Matthew, and Kamdyn William Garner; brothers Edwin (Susan) Hayes and Stephen (Marcie) Hayes; sister Barbara (Buford) Lee; sister-in-law Patricia Hayes; great-granddaughter Brinlee Rose Beverley; and eight nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; longtime boyfriend and partner, Houston Ford; sisters Janet Hayes and Mary-Lou Hayes Crook; and her real brother, Ronald Lee Hayes.

As per her wishes, no memorial or funeral services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Elaine’s memory may be made to The Riley Children’s Foundation at The Riley Hospital for Children, 705 Riley Hospital Drive, Indianapolis, 46202 or to the Grace Lutheran Church of Elkhart Food Pantry, 831 W Marion St, Elkhart, IN 46516.
