Douglas J. Bender

Douglas J. “Doug” Bender, 57, of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Monday, May 18, 2020. Doug was born on September 5, 1962 in Elkhart to Jim K. Bender and the late Jeanette E. Bender, who preceded him in 2008.

He is survived by his father, Jim K. (Ellenor) Bender; brothers, Brian K. and Eric P. (Edward Smith) Bender; one niece; two nephews; and a good friend and neighbor, Carlos Harris and his family. Doug is preceded in death by his mother.  

A private family visitation and service (with proper social distancing procedures to be followed, please bring a face mask) will be held at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart, IN 46514. Burial will follow private family services to Carleton Cemetery in Elkhart.

Doug was a skilled craftsman and carpenter who enjoyed working with his hands to create magnificent works of art from wood. One of his proudest achievements was creating a well-crafted 3-D wooden train for a children’s amusement park. Doug was a very smart man who loved the Lord with all his heart and was very devoted to his faith in Christ. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
