Dorothy E. Kane, 80, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at the Center for Hospice Care in South Bend with her loving family at her side following an extended illness on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020 at 10:30 pm. She was born Jan. 5, 1940 in Elkhart to the late George and Isabelle (Twiford) Sutterby. On June 14, 1969, Dorothy married her sweetheart, Louis A. Kane, in Elkhart. He passed away in Elkhart on Sept. 4, 2007.
Surviving are daughters Isabelle (Tom) Runyan, April Willard and Bobbie (Willie) Allen; sister Barbara Johnson; grandchildren Dawn, Byron, Brad, Brian, Veronica, Anna and Angel, and 14 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Goldie Rhoades 4 brothers and a sister.
Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart will be hosting Dorothy’s memorial celebration of life services on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020 at 1:00 pm, with visitation starting there at 11 am. Pastor Mike Sommer from the Jimtown Family Church of the Nazarene will officiate. In accordance with Dorothy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and burial at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart will follow at a later date.
Dorothy was the quintessential homemaker; doting over her family and grandchildren, excelling at home-baked pies and cookies, making quilts for friends and family members and looking for garage sales. Her favorite times were spent when she and her family or friends went out somewhere to eat and have fellowship together.
