Dixie Yoder Life Story

UPDATE: A celebration of life service for Dixie Colleen Yoder will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St Paul's United Methodist Church, 405 W. Beardsley Ave. Pastor Tom DeFries will officiate. Private family burial will follow at Rice Cemetery. 

 

Dixie Colleen Yoder, 88, formerly of Elkhart, died peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2020 in Salinas, California. She was born on March 9, 1932 in Milford, Indiana to the late Noble L. and Ruth (Culler) Cory. She married Carroll McClure, he died in 1954.  She married Worth N. Yoder Jr. on September 8, 1956 in Elkhart. Judge Yoder died in December 1999. In addition to her husbands, and parents, a son Grant N. Yoder, died on February 23, 2004.

Dixie is survived by her son Retired Navy Commander. E. Cory (Nicoline) Yoder of Salinas, Calif.; 2 granddaughters, Olivia N. Yoder, and Katie C. Yoder. 

Dixie worked as a Deputy Clerk in the City Clerk’s Office for many years. She formerly worked for St. Joseph Valley Bank and for her husband's, Worth N. Yoder, Law Office. Dixie was very involved in local politics and in the Elkhart community. She was a long-time member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she served on the Board of Trustees. Additionally, she served on the Elkhart Methodist District Property Committee for 5 years, the North Indiana Conference Board of Trustees, St. Paul’s parsonage, and the administrative boards for many years. Dixie was a proud Republican and was a delegate to the Republican State Convention in 1982. She was a Past President of the Elkhart Bar Auxiliary and a member of the 4-Arts Club. 

Dixie cherished her family and friends.  She moved to California in 2016 to be close to family. Per her wishes, cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with the date and time to be announced in the spring of 2021. She will be laid to rest at Rice Cemetery.  

Memorials in Dixie’s name are kindly requested to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Macular Degeneration Disease research or the American Heart Association.
