Deloris M. Ferris

Deloris M. Ferris, 81, of Elkhart, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at her residence after a courageous, fierce battle with cancer and strokes which lasted from August 2020 to May 2021. She was born in Kathryn, ND on May 11, 1939 to the late Joseph E. and Doris (Anderson) Reistad.

Deloris is survived by her children, Donna (Chris) Gildea, Debby (Thomas) Else, Jerry (Sarah) Ferris, and Sherry (Glen) Marr; former spouse, Jerald C. Ferris; grandchildren, Brittney (Jason) Wiltse, Jordan (Brittny) Else, Payton (Danielle) Gildea, Savannah Olson, Finnegan Ferris, Jake Ferris; and great grandson, Briggs Thomas Wiltse. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Wayne Olson; stepsons, Bob and Ron Ferris; brother, Ernie Reistad and her parents.

In accordance with Deloris’ wishes, cremation was chosen and will take place at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart. Visitation will take place on Friday, May 14, 2021 from 2-3 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1133 Kilbourn St, Elkhart, IN 46514. A service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the church with Sister Nora officiating. Deloris will be laid to rest in Holstein, Iowa at a later date next to her mother, Doris. Memorial donations or flowers may be sent to Augustana Lutheran Church, 1133 Kilbourn St, Elkhart, IN 46514.

Deloris was a generous, selfless woman who loved to help others. She never knew a stranger and knew almost everyone in the town of Elkhart. Deloris worked for over 40 years at Elkhart General Hospital in various departments, ending as a switchboard operator until her retirement in 2017. She was a devout and faithful member of Augustana Lutheran Church. Deloris was a dedicated mother and grandmother who worked hard to provide for her children and enjoyed every moment she spent with her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed collecting coins, going to garage and estate sales, reading, visiting with her friends and enjoyed Adams cakes and coconut cream pie. The family wishes to thank friends and family for uplifting and supporting Deloris during her battle.  She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
