Debra "Deb" A. (Kurtz) Hawkey

Debra “Deb” A. Hawkey, 65, of Elkhart, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.

Deb was born on June 11, 1955 in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Calvin and Mary Helen (Cripe) Kurtz. She is married to Daniel Hawkey on October 14, 1977.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Mary Kurtz; brother-in-laws, Fred Dills and Joe Hawkey.

Deb is survived by her husband, Daniel L. Hawkey; son, Matthew L. Hawkey and Phillip D. (Vanessa)  Hawkey; grandchildren, Talon (Brianna), Charlotte, Ellie, Adelle and Maxwell Hawkey; great grandson, Carson; sister, Sally Dills; and Aunt, Mary Probst.

Debra lived in Elkhart, Indiana for most of her life. She attended Bristol Elementary School, Brookdale Middle School and Elkhart Central High School. In 1973, she finished her Senior year in Lancaster, PA at Conestoga Valley High School with honors. Returning to Elkhart in 1974, she was an executive secretary at CP Products and Nibco for 20 years before becoming a homemaker. In 1977, she married the love of her life Daniel Hawkey. Deb enjoyed gardening, reading, camping, cooking and especially baking her Christmas cookies. She enjoyed travelling on vacation to Florida and Brown County, IN. Deb loved the Fall time and nature. Most of all she, loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart with Pastor Jeremy Sarber officiating. Burial will follow at West Goshen Cemetery.
