David E. Whiteman

David Ellsworth Whiteman, 92, of Bristol, passed away surrounded by his family and his fur baby, Spicy Whiteman on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at home.

David was born on April 21, 1929, to the late, Charles Whiteman and Tressa (Osborn) raised by his his father, Charles and Ruby (Steller) Whiteman in Winamac, IN. He married the love of his life, Joan (Funkhouser) Whiteman on April 29, 1950, in Elkhart. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2015.      

David is preceded in death by his wife, Joan and brother, Richard Whiteman.

David is survived by his daughters, Jane (Carl) Dick of Elkhart and Dreama (John) Espinoza of Bristol; brother, Gene Whiteman; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

David was a line worker at Uniroyal for many years. In his later years, he was a security guard at Employers Security. He was an extremely hard worker. David enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He was member of the Elkhart County Conservation Club and Mishawaka Moose Lodge 1262. David enjoyed listening to music especially country. David was strong willed yet also an outgoing person who always had a good trick up his sleeve. David was an animal lover at heart especially his fur babies and occasionally liked “people”.

A Graveside Service for David will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 12 ,2021 in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, IN 46561 with nephew, David Bowman officiating. Per David’s family’s request, he will be cremated. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart is assisting the family.
