David “Dave” Alan Edwards, 71, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital.
David was born on June 3, 1949 in Peoria, Il to the late Herbert Oscar Edwards and Iona Lucille (Davis) Burbridge. He is also preceded in death by his family members, Ed Lines, Chuck Lines, Robert Franzen and Cheri Lines.
David was a Hero; he was proud Army Veteran who enlisted to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He started his career at Caterpillar in Mossville, Il. Then retired from Gunite Corporation in Elkhart, In. He was an active member of The American Legion.
David loved worshipping the Lord, he regularly volunteered at the church and in the community with his wife. He was a selfless man, who always put others’ needs before his own. David was easy to love, respectful and always kind to others.
You could typically find him in his backyard feeding the birds, growing his prized tomatoes or doing word puzzles. David loved spoiling his family. He created many family traditions with his kids and grandkids that will last lifetimes. Whether making his infamous pancakes after a sleepover or joining them in a game of Ladder ball on a lazy Sunday afternoon, he was always there for them.
David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Catherine; his children Laurie Byers, Patty (Michael) Carey and Melinda (Jeff) Mathes; his grandchildren, Lindsay, Paige, Jeffery, Christopher, Morgan, Joshua and Kagan; his siblings Gladys Franzen and Herb (Pat) Edwards; in laws James (Deb) Lines, Ben Lines, John (Pat) Kaiser and Michael Lines.
There will be a family get together to celebrate David’s life at a later date. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart, IN 46514 is assisting the family.
