Christian "Chris" Carper Life Story

Mr. Christian Anthony “Chris” Carper, 29, of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, September 11, 2021. He was born on October 12,1991 in New Iberia, Louisiana to Andrew D. and Melissa R. (Stansbury) Carper of Lafayette, Louisiana, and later married Jenna C. Schnell on July 6, 2013 in Elkhart.

Along with Jenna and his parents, Christian is survived by his beautiful daughter Emma and his brother and sister Ian and Jacqueline “Jackie” Carper, both of Louisiana, as well as a host of loving extended family, friends and work pals.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place and a small celebration of Chris’ life will be held at a later date. Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart are assisting the family with arrangements.

Chris was employed at Carpenter Co in Elkhart at the time of his passing and was remembered for being a hard and loyal worker. He enjoyed being part of the team there and liked the fact that he was working with good people. Yet his heart remained with his sweet Emma, with whom he did nearly everything. Being from Louisiana, Chris loved to cook Cajun food, and Emma would be right there with him, helping with the gumbo, white beans and sausage or jambalaya. “Put in some mo’ ‘ohn-yonn’, Emma”, Chris would say, in his best Justin Wilson Cajun voice. Chris also had a Nintendo Switch unit that would keep Emma and he entertained for hours, plus they were quite the “dream-team” when it came to building epic Lego structures.

He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed the simple pleasures of the early morning frost in a tree stand or the unmistakable “zzzzzzing” that a fishing reel would make following a perfect cast. He simply loved nature’s beauty and always marveled at God’s creations.

Chris also had a fun side, and probably the number one favorite activity of his was to get a bunch of friends together and go out an attend different types of events and gatherings, and probably the number one annual destination for this motley crew was the Niles Haunted House, a long-standing local Halloween tradition to those living in the Michiana area. Of course, this left the rest of the year free for trying out different area restaurants, pubs and micro-breweries.

Memorial donations may be given to the charity of one’s choice. Friends and relatives are encouraged to leave condolences and memories of Chris by clicking “Tribute Wall” on his obituary page.
