ELKHART - Cherie G. Fish, 68, residing in Elkhart, passed away Thursday afternoon, surrounded by her loving family on August 16, 2018 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, after a long battle with cancer. A native of Mishawaka and graduate of Mishawaka High School, she was born on September 6, 1949 to Eugene G. and Anne Marie (Palsce) VanDusen.
On August 1, 1970 she married the love of her life Jon M. Fish at St. Monica Catholic Church and began a wonderful life journey together. Surviving is her husband of 48 years Jon, daughter Amy McLeod and husband Charlie, son Adam Fish and his wife Paige; and was lovingly known as Nana to Emily McLeod and Lucas Fish. She also was a loving mom to her dog Zoe. Also surviving are siblings, Greg VanDusen, Bridgett Wagner and husband Jeff, niece Chelsea Wagner and nephew Roth Wagner, Vanessa VanDusen, David VanDusen, her aunt Vi Markanich, her cousins Marianne Markanich and Steve Markanich. Cherie was preceded in death by her parents and cousin Buzz Markanich.
Cherie worked for Jimtown (Baugo) Community Schools for 25 years as a elementary librarian. She was at the former Harley Hoben Elementary School from 1987 until it closed and then moved to Jimtown Elementary School.
Cherie was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, nana and friend to many. She was an active member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, and volunteered at Elkhart General Hospital Gift Shop for 3 years. She loved spending time with her family and friends, shopping going to garage sales or doting on her grandchildren.
Friends and family of Cherie Fish may call or visit from 4-8 pm. Monday, Aug. 20th at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. The evening will conclude with a parish rosary beginning at 7:30 pm.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am., with 1 hour of visitation prior on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main St. Elkhart. A meal will follow immediately after mass. The procession will then leave the church for the burial and graveside services at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger.
