Charles Ray “Chuck” Pitts, 84, of Edwardsburg, MI, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 22, 1936 in Nashville, TN to the late William F. and Zula R. (Hall) Pitts.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Pitts; sons, Tony (Melanie) Pitts and Bill (Sherri) Pitts; six grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Rita Hutchins.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2020 from noon to 2 p.m. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Chris Reno of Willowdale Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow services to 5 Points Cemetery in Edwardsburg, MI. Proper social distancing procedures must be followed and please bring a face mask for services. Chuck was a kind Christian man who loved to help others in need. For many years, he worked as a communications engineer and worked in just about every television station in the Elkhart area. Chuck was also a key player in the Jazz bands and orchestras that entertained in Elkhart. He had a talent for playing the bass trombone and the guitar. Chuck also enjoyed collecting old engines and was especially fascinated by the mechanics of the hit and miss engines he collected. To those who knew him, he went by “Chuck”, “Charlie”, or “Ray”; he will be missed by his loving family and by his many friends in his community.
