Charles "Charlie" Bell Life Story

Charles “Charlie” Guy Bell, 85, of Elkhart, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Raclin House in Mishawaka surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 24, 1938, in Three Rivers, MI, to the late Leland Bell and Ethel (Custer) Baldwin. He was raised by his mother and late stepfather, Delbert “Deb” Baldwin.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Whybrew) Bell of Elkhart; daughters, Leigh and Cathy Bell, both of Elkhart; grandchildren, Dr. Amber (Nick) Sheppard, DVM of Goshen, Stacy (Greg) Stutzman of Valparaiso, and Keith Stamm of Elkhart; great grandchildren, Caleb, Mackenzie, Olivia, Jackson, and Hailey; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Bell of Florida and Lynn Lyons of Elkhart; and a loving host of nieces, nephews, and siblings-in-law that he loved dearly.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, and brother, Leland Bell.

In accordance with Charlie’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. A private graveside service with military honors will take place at a later date. Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart has been assisting the family with arrangements.

Charlie proudly served in the US Navy as an Engineman Second Class from 1955 to 1959. Back in the states, he was honored to work for Miles Laboratories for over 30 years in the citric acid and extraction departments as a supervising foreman. After Miles, Charlie worked for Advanced Auto for over five years as a delivery driver.

In his spare time, Charlie enjoyed camping and fishing, particularly in Chain of Lakes, IN. He adored nature and animals, such as farm life, deer, birds, and house pets. Charlie also enjoyed being a handyman, building things for his family, fixing and repairing, and simply having the chance to take care of and help those he loved.

Most important to Charlie was his family. He loved spending time with them whenever he could, especially his grand and great grandchildren who brought him so much joy. He was very proud of being able to provide for his family and would do any and everything he could to make sure they were well cared for and loved.

Charlie, along with all the love and joy he brought to his family and friends, will be dearly missed by those whose hearts he touched throughout his life.
