Bonnie Joan Sponseller, 94, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, March 29, 2020 at the home of her daughter Debra Sponseller. She was born on June 13, 1925 in Nappanee to John and Mary Jane (Reed) Haloway. She married her true love Richard D. “Irish” Sponseller on Feb. 19, 1947 in Nappanee. Richard passed away in Aug. of 2000 after 53 years of marriage.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl Lynn (Larry) Burtsfield, Debra Gwinn Sponseller; and a brother Ronald (Linda) Holaway; also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard, son Gregory Allen Sponseller; brother Dean Holaway, sister Naomi Barden and a great grandson Rhett Bliss.
Bonnie worked for 22 years at Vincent Bach/Selmer retiring in 1988. She worked in the saxophone department, assembling and cleaning the instruments. She was a member of VFW Post #88 and the Elkhart Moose Lodge. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and daughter’s Debra and Cheryl. She loved to ride the tractor to mow her lawn and loved birds.
Per her wishes, cremation was chosen, services celebrating her life and burial at Prairie St. Veteran’s Section will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart. Memorials are requested to Elara Caring Hospice, 101 Parkway Ave., Elkhart, IN 46516
