Bonnie Secor Life Story

Bonnie M. Secor, 89, of Elkhart, Indiana passed away, peacefully at her daughter’s home on Sunday, July 12, 2020 in Vandalia, Michigan.

She was born June 30, 1931, in Concord Township to Vernon and Fanny (Chupp) Miller.  On July 2, 1949, she married Richard L. Secor, Sr. in the orchard of her parent’s farm in Concord Township. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1987. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are daughters, Connie (Robert) Cramer of Elkhart, and Peggy (Kenny) Gonyon of Vandalia, Michigan and a son, Richard (Marie) of Rome City; 8 grandchildren, Aizen-Choi Kym (Shelia), Kristine (Eric) Oliver, Will Cramer, Michael (Kristen) Payne, Laura (Seth) Hudson, L.K. VonDoehren, Richie (Jennifer) Secor and Jade Secor. And seven great-grandchildren, Owen Payne, Makenzi and Brayden Grisham, Benjamin and Joshua Secor, Kohen VonDoehren, and Carson Secor; and a sister, Betty Secor of Elkhart and Brother in law, Gary and Judy Secor of Elkhart.

Mrs. Secor managed Jackson Dry Cleaners in Elkhart for many years; she received a recognition award for her outstanding leadership skills instructing Junior Achievement students employed at the cleaners. She later worked for Carpenter Meats in Osceola before retiring.

Bonnie was a member of Elkhart Northside Church of the Nazarene where she served in the Caravan Children’s Ministry, Bus Ministry, and Little Apple Preschool.

She volunteered at the Elkhart Probation Department, a Pink Lady at Elkhart General Hospital, a Welcome Ambassador while living at Hubbard Hill Assisted Living and member of the Red Hats.

Bonnie enjoyed exercising, playing cards with her friends, keeping her yard and flower gardens immaculate, baking, sewing crafts, decorating for Christmas, and helping others.

Her generosity, sense of humor, advocacy for the underdog, compassion, love of nature, and ice cream will be greatly missed by all who crossed her path.

Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought her great joy as did her relationship with Jesus.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a service to follow at 12 p.m. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514. Bonnie will be laid to rest in Olive West Cemetery immediately following the service. Guests for the visitation and service are asked to please follow proper social distancing procedures and to bring a face mask.

Because of Bonnie’s love of flowers, the family requests flowers be sent in place of memorials of any type.
