Betty Joan Huot, 92, died peacefully at St. Anne Home and Retirement Community in Fort Wayne at 4:10 p.m., May 6, 2023 surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 4, 1931, in Monticello, Indiana to the late Michael and Grace (Welker) Ferro.
She married Edwin Louis Huot on Aug. 22, 1953, in Elkhart. He died Jan. 1, 2010.
Surviving are her three daughters, Diana (Jeff) Peat of Ft. Wayne, Cindy (Greg) Ditlinger of Fishers, and Jody (Mike) Mason of Indianapolis; and nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, one sister, Millie Ferro, and two brothers, Gerry Ferro and Dave Ferro.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Ferro and John Ferro.
Betty was a lifelong member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, where she worked as the parish secretary and office manager for 17 years. She was an active member of the Rosary Society, and also shared her time and talent by lectoring, and by creating many banners for the church.
At home, Betty’s life revolved around her loving husband Ed, longtime radio announcer at WTRC, and her three children, 9 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Her fun-loving and creative personality, along with her active faith, made her a light to her family and to all who knew her.
Friends may call for 1 hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2023 Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St. Elkhart. Reverend Levi Nkwocha will officiate. Betty will be laid to rest next to Ed at St. Vincent Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Women’s Care Center, 229 Marion St. Elkhart.
