Bette Jean Kelly, 84, of Elkhart, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Golden Living Center in Elkhart. She was born on July 22, 1934 in Elkhart to the late Harry and Edna (Dunlap) Freshour.
She married Robert D. Kelly on February 9, 1952 in Las Angeles with whom she spent 49 wonderful years with until he passed away on September 26, 2001. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Caryn Dillon and Pamela Johnson; five brothers, Robert Freshour, Raymond Freshour, John Freshour, Kenneth Freshour, and Richard Freshour; two sisters, Virginia Brown and Eilleen Hartman; and her lovable cat, Casey. Bette is survived by her granddaughter, Michelle Cataldo, grandsons, Jamel and Caleb Johnson, and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service for Bette will be held at noon on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin Street, Elkhart with one hour of visitation prior at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Tim Sheets will be officiating. She will be laid to rest at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart at a later date.
Bette was a housewife for most of her life and was affiliated with the Lutheran Church. She was an avid animal advocate and loved cats. Memorials may be given to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnett Dr. South Bend, IN 46614.
