Beryl Elaine Sadewasser, 97, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Heritage Point Assisted Living and Memory Care in Mishawaka.
Beryl was born on March 8, 1923 in Burr Oak, MI to Harold and Florence (Mock) Fennell. She married her true love and best friend, Durwood Sadewasser, on June 14, 1947 in Centreville, MI. They were happily married for 62 years, raised a family of three daughters, and lived in Sturgis, MI for decades.
Beryl is survived by two daughters, Connie Lee (Bill) Meyers, and Cathy Ann (Alan) Hawkins; her brother, Robert (Joan) Fennell; as well as eight grandchildren and a number of great and great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Durwood, her daughter Phyllis Sullivan, and 3 sisters Marian Cary, Doris Welker and Alice Jean Fennell.
Beryl retired from Elkhart General Hospital, where she worked in the payroll department, and formerly worked at J C Penney’s in Sturgis, Michigan. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for the family, gardening, camping, playing the piano and guitar, and was quite the yodeler. Beryl and Durwood hosted countless get-togethers and card parties for their spiritual brothers and sisters.
Beryl loved God’s word the Bible. On July 4, 1951, she and Durwood were both baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses, raising their girls to love Jehovah also. As a member of the Elkhart North Congregation, she had a great love for others that moved her to share her faith with all she met. This faith gave her a strong, Bible-based hope for the promised Paradise earth. (Ps. 37:10, 11) (Isa. 65:21,22) (Rev. 21: 3, 4). She was a wonderful woman who will be missed by all who knew her. Now she is sleeping in peace, awaiting the promised resurrection. We look forward to welcoming her back at that time!
In honoring Beryl’s wishes, cremation was chosen and she will be laid to rest with Durwood at Rice Cemetery at a future date.
