Ms. Audrey Ann Grimes, 74, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully although unexpectedly in the comfort of her own home on Friday, November 10, 2023. She had been in ill health.
She was born in Elkhart on July 21, 1949 to the late Aubrey Schultz and Pauline (Hall) Schultz Krull. Her father Aubrey passed away at an early age and Pauline later married the late Isaac Krull, who raised Audrey from an early age.
Surviving Audrey are her sons Walter I. “J.R.” Grimes, III of Elkhart, Michael E. (Kathy) Geiger of New Paris and Jody L. Grimes of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; daughter Dawn M. (Brian) Reamer of Murfreesboro; brother Wade (Deb) Krull of Nappanee, sisters Robin (Norman) Schoon of Gary and Charlene (Rex) Young of Goshen; grandchildren Anthony (Amanda Stacy) Reamer, Kristen (Thomas) Foupht, Marc Schlamersdorf, Brandon (Nicole Morrison) Reamer and Roshelle Stratton and great grandchildren Serenity, Autumn, Raven, Isaiah, Nova, James, Elijah, Jaxson, Sophia, Theodore and Kelly. Audrey is also survived by her former spouse Walter E. (Donna) Grimes of Lagrange, and by a loving host of extended family, good friends, work associates and friendly neighbors who will surely miss Audrey’s warm smile and loving personality. A brother, Rex Schultz, can be included with those who precede Audrey in death.
Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services will host Audrey’s homegoing services beginning with a gathering of friends and family on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 11 am to 1 pm. Funeral services will then begin there precisely at 1:00 pm. Pastor Jeremy Sarber will officiate and, in accordance with Audrey’s wishes, cremation will follow the services.
Audrey worked as a professional seamstress in the local RV industry for most of her adult life and was employed at Brill Seating of Elkhart at the time of her passing. When not working, she loved to read, knit and spend time with her family and grands.
Kind and generous, Audrey loved to do things for others. She never repeated an unkind word about anyone and loved to help out others whenever she could. She was always drawn to the outdoors and nature, and she enjoyed watching her son J.R. tend to their garden and feed the birds and other wildlife that frequented their little nature area.
All in all, Audrey was a lovely lady that dearly loved her children and her grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than to have her family around her.
