Alberta "Bert" Fritz Life Story

Mrs. Alberta Marie “Bert” Fritz, 65, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 7:45 pm. She was born on May 19 1956 in Alton, Illinois to the late Harold Fritz and Alice Mae (Rafferty) Fritz Williams. Besides her parents, Bert is also preceded in death by her step-dad LaVerne “Cork” Williams, who raised her from a young age.

Surviving Bert is her companion and sweetheart of over two and a half decades, Charles D. Allman, who resides at home; her son Harold E. Allman of Elkhart; daughters Robin R. Allen of Elkhart and Billie Jo (Danny) Bowling of Corbin, Kentucky; brothers Roland (Brenda) Williams and LaVerne Williams Jr., both of Elkhart, and Jodie Williams of Ocoee, Florida; sisters Patty Myers of Milford, Sarah Williams of Orlando, Florida and Tina Barsen of Alton, Illinois; grandchildren Candace and Hannah Begley, Mitchell Bowling, Anthony, Hope, Brian and Danatay Allman, Ethan Couch, Adrian Spellings, Danielle Wright, Tristan and Jason Whisman and Cody Smith; and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a huge host of nieces, nephews, extended family, good friends and her faithful buddy Cocoa the Chihuahua. A son, Asa Whisman, and a daughter, Angie Marie Smith, precede Bert in death.

Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart will host services for Bert starting with a visitation and viewing scheduled for Thursday, September 2, 2021, from 6-8 pm. Then on Friday, September 3, 2021, Bert’s celebration of life service will take place at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10 am. Pastor Clinton Keifer of the “Hope Restored” Church in Crawfordsville, Indiana. In accordance with her wishes, cremation will follow services.

Bert was a loving mom, granny and nana, and enjoyed every minute that she could spend time with her family. She also loved her chihuahuas and cared for many generations of her tiny friends for as long as anyone can remember. In fact, her kids would joke that the dog usually received the preferential treatment within the household. She enjoyed being outdoors; and taking long walks or sitting in her yard swing were two things that she looked forward to when she wanted to find some peace or clear her mind. She also liked to shop and would always be up for a trip to Walmart if someone was headed that direction. Finally, it should be mentioned that Bert would always get excited when it would become time to take a road trip down to Corbin, Kentucky to visit Billie Jo and her extended family “down south”; and considered these trips as her “mini-vacations”.

Bert was blessed with her ability to spread her joy and love to others. She always enjoyed being able to help folks in need and was always thankful for what she had.
