Stephens
May 10, 1936 – December 15, 2025
William "Bill" Douglas Stephens, 89, of Elkhart, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Elkhart General Hospital.
Bill was born on May 10, 1936 in Elkhart, IN to the late, William J. Stephens and Lillian E. (Price) Stephens. Like a modern love story, he married the love of his life, Sally (Hussey) Stephens on June 15, 1963 in Spring Valley, OH.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian and sister, Jean Stephens.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sally Stephens and daughter, Jennifer Stephens of Chesterton, IN.
Bill grew up on a farm, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for hard work, the outdoors, wildlife, and vintage farm equipment. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, Bill worked as a skilled cabinet maker at JR Weber for 21 years, retiring in 2001.
Bill and his wife, Sally, shared a true love-at-first-sight story, after just their third date they became engaged. Together, they were faithful members of North Side Baptist Church and DAV Post 19.
A man who loved working with his hands, Bill took great pride in woodworking and caring for his yard. He was a vintage car enthusiast and especially proud of his 1967 Chevy Nova. Deeply patriotic, Bill loved his Lord and his country. Though reserved by nature, he was known for his generosity and kindness, always willing to give the shirt off his own back to those he cared about. Bill will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to family, and unwavering faith.
